There Are No Perfect Parents » 03_18_2007

Nothing important, or meaningful, or beautiful, or interesting, or great ever came out of imitations. Perfectionism is a form of imitation. Perfectionism is about comparison and competition. Parenting is about teaching your child how to leave you and go out into the real world knowing how the real world works. It is setting an example for you child. Teaching them how to make wise choices and knowing that there are consequences to the choices and decisions they make. There is no perfect in doing this. What this takes is knowing yourself and knowing your child. Making decisions and choices that reflect who you are and what you stand for so your child will have the courage to do the same.

Perfection irritates as well as it attracts. The perfect mother makes other mothers feel like failures simply by showing up and showing off. The perfect child can never step outside the safe box of the right answer. STOP THE “RAT RACE FOR PERFECTION”. You might win the race but you are still a rat.
